The Botanical Collection

A mixture of handmade fabric wrapped frames, vintage wood frames and a few unframed works. Each original will come with a fine art print of the compiled scanned and pressed references that served as the inspiration for these works.

My aim for this collection was that the work would be a truthful representation of the flowers themselves while simultaneously keeping in my painting style and the way I perceive we observe flowers in real life, with portions of the subject more in focus and some less in focus at any given time.

On inspiration for the collection:  I am incredibly inspired by everything in God's world He has made. I find that my art practice is one of the ways I cultivate awe for how big and how good He is. It can be humbling to study and paint and repaint the same subject and still feel the beauty pales in comparison to what He has created. Recently I've been struck by the symmetry and geometry of different varieties of flowers, and how certain numbers and shapes may carry through to the stem and leaf structure from the petals. The more I look, the more I can't help but notice the great care and attention to detail He has exercised in every created thing, even the wildflowers. "Yet I tell you that even Solomon in all his glory wasn't clothed like one of these" (Matthew 6:29)
